Austin, the capital of Texas, is a beautiful city with a population over 700,000. It is the cultural and economic center of the Greater Austin metropolitan area with a population of more than 1.5 million. It is not only physically in the center of the state of Texas, it is also the center of Texas life and culture.

Austin is situated on the Colorado River with flat prairies on the eastern side and beautiful rolling hills on the other. Beginning in downtown and stretching 150 miles west and north into the Texas Hill Country, lie the Highland lakes, a chain of lakes created by a series of dams along the Colorado River. The proximity to the hill country and the lakes provides Austinites with unlimited outdoor opportunities.

It has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Precipitation is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The sun shines about 300 days a year which allows for a green, lush environment that supports outdoor living at its best.

Austin provides high quality public school education as well as many private school alternatives for children in preschool-12th grade. Forbes Magazine recently included Austin on the list of “Best Education in the Biggest Cities.” For higher education, Austin is home to the University of Texas as well as several other universities and seminaries.

With three of the nation’s largest cities, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston, being less than 3 hours away, Austin is at the crossroads of several major highway routes.  The city has a good public transportation system and many bicycle lanes. Opening in 2008, a commuter rail system serving downtown Austin to northern and eastern areas of the city will offer more alternative transportation. It has one of the nation’s top airports, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, with easy connections to major domestic and international cities.

Austin has some of the highest quality health care and treatment in the nation because of the numerous state-of-the-art medical facilities. Specialty hospitals focus on research, education, and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and mental health, as well as special services for women and children.

The diversity of Austin’s attitude encourages a respectful and caring community  towards cultures and religion. Many traditional and nontraditional denominations and religious groups exist.

Austin has a strong economy which is thriving on a balance of technology, medical research, business services, government, and education. It is a haven for creative and talented people with opportunities for challenging careers.  Being world-renown for a large population of intellectual talent and an educated, highly skilled workforce, Austin attracts companies that are on the leading edge in technology, bioengineering, business, pharmaceutical research, and computer science. With the combination of the work force, the relatively low cost of living and ongoing business incentives, Austin will continue to receive honors as being a top business center.

Austin if far from ordinary or average. It has a strong heritage yet is hip and trendy. It is rich in culture but is open to new ideas. It has a strong economic foundation and work ethics, yet people love to have a good time. It is high tech but laid back. Its eclectic nature IS Austin.
